After Arrest
Where an arrestee’s family members are witnesses to the arrest, they should ask the police officers which police station the arrestee is to be transported to. Then they should arrange a lawyer to go to said police station. Where a detainee’s family members are not present at the arrest, they should call the police station nearest to where the arrestee lives to check whether it is where the detainee is booked in, 30 minutes after the arrest.
First Visit of Family Members
There is a possibility that the remanded has not received a registration number yet at the time of the first visit. If so, the family members can write the remanded’s Hong Kong identity card number in the section of the social visit application form that asks for registration number. The Correctional Services Department will provide the registration number after receiving the social visit application form.
From Remanded in Custody to Serving a Custodial Sentence
The custodial sentence starts on the day the individual is sentenced. The period in custody after conviction only counts as being in custody on remand. As such, please note the following:

Cancel all orders with the private food supplier

Cancel all orders with the newspaper supplier

No articles previously given to the remanded can be brought along when transferring from the remand facility to the prison. Therefore, family members will have to start amassing items for the prisoner all over again.

Please wait for the welfare officer’s phone call for obtaining a new registration number and ascertaining which prison the individual is serving in.
